Ingredients
 

For sama chawal (moriyo) khichdi

  • 1 cup sama chawal moriyo
  • 2 tbsp ghee
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 dry red chilli
  • 2 cloves
  • ½ inch cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp peanuts
  • 2 tbsp green chilli paste
  • ½ cup potato cubes
  • 4 cup water
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tbsp curd
  • Some coriander seeds

For vrat ki kadhi

  • 1 cup sour curd
  • 3 tbsp rajgira flour amaranth flour
  • ½ cup water
  • 2 tbsp ghee
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 4-5 curry leaves
  • 2 tsp green chilli paste
  • Salt to taste
  • ½ tsp sugar
  • Some coriander leaves

Instructions

For sama chawal (moriyo) khichdi

  • Wash and soak sama chawal for 30 minutes. Drain and then keep aside.
  • In a pan, add ghee, cumin seeds, dry red chili, cinnamon stick, cloves, green chili paste, and peanuts. Sauté it.
  • Add potato cubes and sauté them. Then add soaked sama chawal and mix well.
  • Now add water and salt to taste. Mix well.
  • Cover and cook on low flame. Do check and sit at intervals.
  • Cook till grains absorb water and softened.
  • Then add curd and mix well.
  • Garnished with coriander leaves and serve hot with vrat ki kadhi.

For vrat ki kadhi

  • In a mixing bowl, add fresh curd, rajgira flour, and water. Mix well and there should no lumps in the mixture.
  • Now heat ghee in a pan, and add cumin seeds, curry leaves, and green chili. Sauté for a minute.
  • Then lower the flame and add the kadhi mixture, salt, and sugar in it.
  • Mix well and cook kadhi on low flame till it becomes thickened.
  • Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot with sama khichdi.

Notes

  • 4 cups water make the khichdi mushy and soft but if you want separate grains then add just 2 cup water.
  • In kadhi, you can use butter milk instead of curd.
