Chatpata batata is an easy and tasty aloo snack recipe that can be prepared within minutes without much hassle. They are deep-fried potato cubes that are topped with regular spices. It is usually served hot with tomato ketchup and your favorite dip. I share two methods to make masala aloo which is easy and loved by all kinds of age groups. Do try this!

Ingredients
For crispy potato cubes
- 500 g or 4 medium size potatoes
- 4-5 cup Ice cold water
- 3 tbsp corn flour
- Oil for deep frying
For masala potatoes
- Fried potato cubes
- 1 tsp black salt
- 1 tsp red chilli powder
- 1 tsp chaat masala
For spicy potatoes
- 2 tbsp oil
- 1 tbsp chopped garlic
- ¼ tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp red chilli powder
- 1 tsp chaat masala
- 1 tsp soya sauce
- 2 tbsp tomato ketchup
- Salt to taste
- Fried potato cubes
- 2 tbsp lemon juice
- Some coriander leaves
Instructions
Making crispy potatoes
- Peel potato skin and keep it in water.
- Now cut potatoes into thick slices or to the size required. After that cut slices into small cubes.
- Wash potato cubes with ice-cold water and keep them in water for 25 minutes. this helps to get rid of excess starch from potatoes and makes cubes crispy.
- Drain off the water from the potato cubes and slightly dry it.
- Take out potatoes into a bowl, and coat potato cubes with corn flour.
- Deep fry potato cubes in medium hot oil till they become crispy and slightly golden brown.
- Drain the potato cubes into wire racks once they are golden brown.
- Crispy potato cubes are ready
Making masala potato
- In a bowl, add fried potatoes, black salt, red chilli powder and chaat masala. Coat masala properly with potato cubes.
- Masala potatoes are ready, serve with tomato ketchup.
Making spicy potatoes
- In a pan, add 2 tbsp oil, chopped garlic and chopped green chilli. Sauté for a minute.
- Then lower the flame, and in a bowl add turmeric powder, red chilli powder, chaat masala, soya sauce, tomato ketchup and salt to taste. mix well.
- Add sauce mixture into the pan and cook for a minute.
- Then add fried potato cubes and mix well.
- Switch off the gas and add lemon juice and some coriander leaves. mix well and serve.
Notes
- wash and rest potato cubes in ice-cold water to remove excess starch on their upper surface.
- coat potato cubes with cornflour to make them super crisp.
- fry potato cubes on medium heat till it is crisp and slightly brown in color.
- add masala on cubes, when it is slightly hot.
- mix gently and coat potato cubes evenly with the sauce mix.
